Young Australian Nathan Walker has scored his first AHL playoff goal tonight, giving the Hershey Bears a 1-0 lead in the second period against the Portland Pirates.
Following on from a breakout season, which yielded a career high 41 points (17 goals) in 73 games, Walker combined with Dustin Gazley and Madison Bowey to put the Bears ahead 5:27 into the period. The lead would not hold though and the Bears would ultimately go down in heartbreaking fashion, when Rob Flick scored the game winner 3:10 into the third period of overtime. The epic encounter lasted just over four hours and was attended by a packed out crowd of 8084 fans at Giant Center.
The Bears now find themselves in a tough sport, needing to win the final two games of the five-game series to progress through to the Atlantic Division finals.
