The Baltimore Orioles are off to a flier after two impressive wins to kick off the 2012 MLB season. In fact, the wins have been very impressive. However, these Baltimore Orioles have been through all of this before… Plenty of times. A quick start to the season only to have it followed by a humbling collapse and inevitable disastrous season.
So this morning's (AEST) 8-2 defeat of the Minnesota Twins, which featured another superb starting pitching performance combined with a dominant hitting display, will be accepted for what is was – A second fine game in a 162-game marathon of a season.
When O's Manager, Buck Showalter, was asked about the start to the season, he too was keeping things in check;
“It’s two out of 162, but it’s a good way to start. We had good starts to start the season last year, so we’ll see if it continues.”
Last year, the Orioles began the season 6-1, lifting the hopes of long-suffering fans. However they then dropped eight in a row on their way to a 14th consecutive sub-.500 campaign.
They have now beaten the Twins in their six outings, dating back to last August. The collective score during these six matches is 36-8, highlighting just how dominant they've been.
We'll wait a few more weeks to see if this really is the year the O's bounce back… Fingers crossed it is!
