For the first time in American League history, a game has opened with back-to-back-to-back home runs.
This morning at Oriole Park (Camden Yards), hitters Ryan Flaherty, J.J. Hardy and Nick Markakis smashed the O’s to a 3-0 lead after just 8 pitches, All three bombs came off Rangers starting pitcher Colby Lewis.
It was also the first time a team opened a game with three consecutive home runs since the Brewers did it in the National League, on September 9, 2007. That day, Hardy was once again batting second, sandwiched between Rickie Weeks and Ryan Braun.
It was just the fourth time in either league where a team has started a game with three bombs.
The O’s went on to win 6-5, improving their record at the top of the AL East table.
